Czech sayings and proverbs quiz for learners of Czech as a foreign language

What is this?

This is a sophisticated game to practice Czech sayings online. Each randomly selected Czech saying has its English equivalent or explanation.

Who is it for?

This quiz with Czech sayings is intended to be used by the lower intermediate up to advanced level student. There are over 300 sayings and proverbs in our database. The number of these proverbs and sayings grows each week as we are adding new ones each week.

How does this quiz work?

The game is free but it is necessary to register with your email address.

1. After populating the set of sayings we recommend you to study the sayings. Look at their English equivalent and literary translation into English.

As you can see in the snapshot above the second column contains the English equivalent, if exists and the third column the literary translation of the saying in English.

2. Click on the button at the end of the list to practice the sayings.

3. The sayings are displayed one by one plus their English equivalent. The task of the student is to enter the missing word from the saying into the text-field. After submitting to evaluation you are notified if you were right or wrong and the next saying is displayed. To make the game a bit more exciting and interesting the missing word can be different when you happen to reload the same saying again in another set. This ensures more precise mastering of the sayings in a funny and very effective way.

4. At your discretion you can also use the the help option "Nápověda" when the literary translation of the saying is displayed to help you remember and master the saying. In the example below, you can see the saying  "Když se dva perou třetí se směje."

5. Once the set is completed you can choose to view your overall statistics in the stats page.

Here you can see how successfully and when you did a certain proverb including the missing word that you had to enter.

At the beginning of the list you can request a re-do of unsuccessfully done sayings. If there are more then ten, only ten is selected. If there are less then ten the program selects randomly the amount needed to make up to 10 sayings in total.

As you can see studying sayings with our online game is easy and it provides hours and hours of fun and very effective learning of this beautiful but fairly difficult language.
